Change for week 18 (1st May 2017 – 7th May 2017): +3.2%
Change for week 18 Year-on-Year: +2.9%

Commentary

The ShopperTrak National Retail Index is reporting a decrease Week-on-Week of -0.9% and a decrease of -1.7% Year-on-Year.  The weekend showed an increase of 0.9% Year-on-Year, while the Year-to-Date trend reports -2.4% compared to the previous week. Furthermore, the figure recorded is worse than last year at -2.3%.

Only a few regions realised a Year-on-Year increase with the Yorkshire Humber region seeing the highest increase of +2.2%, followed by the South East region, with an increase of +1.4%. The only other regions to see a Year-on-Year increase were the North West, with a slight increase of +0.3% and London, of +0.4%. The Eastern region suffered the highest decrease on the year of -10.9%, followed by The East Midlands, of -6.3%. The region to realise the lowest decrease was the North East, with a dip of -1.3%.

Only 2 regions saw a Week-on-Week increase, with the Eastern region realising the highest increase of +5.2%, followed by the East Midlands, of +1.8%. The North East region saw the highest decrease of -7.0%, followed by the North West, -6.4%. London realised the lowest Week-on-Week decrease of -0.2%.

Within Retail Parks, the ShopperTrak Index reported an increase of +2.9% in Year-on-Year footfall and an increase of 3.2% on the week. The weekend showed a +9.4% Year-on-Year change.
